Feijoa's are so quintessentially Kiwi, I think most New Zealand North Island backyards have a tree in the backyard (or are neighbours to a tree). So I've put together a wee list of delicious Feijoa Recipes for you.

When are feijoas in season?

Feijoas are ripe in Autumn and Winter, in New Zealand the feijoa season runs from March to June.

How to store feijoas?

If your feijoas are not quite ripe, they can be stored on the bench for 2-3 days, during this time they will soften and become perfect to eat. Once soft and ripe feijoas should be stored in the refrigerator. They will store well in the fridge for 1 to 2 weeks.

How do you tell a feijoa is ripe?

A ripe feijoa will be slightly soft to the touch. When you cut the fruit you will find the fruit will have a clear gel like centre.

How to serve fresh feijoas?

The most common way to serve feijoas is to cut them in half and scoop out the soft flesh with a spoon. An easy alternative is to cut the fruit into wedges length, you can then eat the fruit as you would an orange wedge and not need a spoon.
