Chocolate Peanut Butter Bananas

What's better than Peanut Butter Bananas, chocolate-covered frozen peanut butter bananas of course!

If you've made banana nice cream before you will know how sweet and delicious frozen bananas become, it's literally like ice cream. Throw in a little peanut butter and chocolate and you are onto the perfect little frozen treat.

Ingredients you will need

To make my chocolate peanut butter banana bites you will need bananas, of course, peanut butter, dark chocolate, coconut oil, and if you want to make them a little fancy for a special occasion or Easter, some sprinkles as well!

Ingredient Notes and Substitutes

  • Dark chocolate: This can be substituted for your favourite chocolate, milk, or white both work well.
  • Peanut butter: This can be substituted for any nut butter, sunflower butter or you can leave it out entirely and just make frozen chocolate bananas.

Step by step instructions

Below are illustrated step-by-step instructions to make my Chocolate Peanut Butter Bananas, if you prefer just the written instructions then head straight to the printable recipe card below.

Step one: Slice the bananas into even slices, (approximately 5mm thick) as I was making this as an Easter treat I sliced the bananas at an angle so the slices had an oval/egg shape.

Step two: Spread peanut butter on half of the banana slices. Place these slices on a baking paper-lined flat dish, or board/tray that will fit in your freezer.

Step three: Top the peanut butter with the remaining banana slices so that you end up with banana peanut butter sandwiches.

Step four: Place the chocolate drops and coconut oil in a small microwave-proof bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds. Remove from the microwave and stir, continue with 30-second bursts in the microwave until the chocolate is melted. (You do not the chocolate to be very runny, you just need it to be smooth)

Step five: Use a teaspoon to spoon a small amount of chocolate on top of the banana slices. Optional add sprinkles

Step six: Freeze your chocolate peanut butter bananas for at least an hour before serving.

Chocolate covered peanut butter bananas are best enjoyed almost straight from the freezer, they can sit out for a little while but don't leave them out for a long time

Here is how you can make these peanut butter bananas perfectly every time!

  • Choose ripe bananas, the riper the banana the sweeter they will be.
  • Don't make the banana slices too thick, very thick frozen banana slices can be too hard to eat, you want them to soften a little when they are out of the freezer.
  • Store the chocolate peanut butter frozen bananas in an air-tight container in your freezer for up to 3 months.
  • If you slice your bananas at an angle you will end up with egg-shaped banana slices perfect for Easter
  • Be creative with your sprinkles and you can use these frozen peanut butter bananas as a lovely treat for any occasion
