Cloud eggs are very popular on the internet at the moment. I've been playing around with this cloud egg recipe to create an easy, fun, kid-friendly way to serve eggs, perfect any day but maybe even more perfect as an Easter breakfast idea.

Why This Recipe Works

  • Kids love the texture and look of these cloud eggs!
  • Only 2 ingredients needed
  • Bakes in the oven, which I find easier than cooking eggs on a stovetop.

Ingredients you will need

Cloud eggs really only need one ingredient, eggs. My recipe is flavoured with a little parmesan cheese. But you could skip this if your family aren't into cheesy eggs.

Substitutes

  • Eggs: In this recipe, the eggs can not be substituted for something else.
  • Parmesan: The parmesan can be left out entirely, or can be substituted for other seasonings, salt, and pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, nutritional yeast.

How to Make Cloud Eggs

Below are illustrated step-by-step instructions to make cloud eggs if you prefer just the written instructions then head straight to the recipe card.

Step one: Preheat your oven to 180 degrees celsius (360 Fahrenheit)

Step two: Crack and separate the eggs, You can do this using any egg separating method you prefer, when I'm cooking with kids I show them how to carefully use their hands to scoop out the egg yolk, this means less chance of eggshell getting in my eggs!

Step three: Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. I use an electric mixer.

Step four: Add the parmesan (or other seasonings) you can either fold or beat the seasoning into the whipped egg whites.

Step five: Line a baking tray with baking or parchment paper, Scoop the whipped egg whites into cloud shapes on the lined tray. Using a spoon create an indentation in the centre of each one (this is where the yolk will go). Bake in your preheated oven for 5 minutes.

Step six: Remove the baked egg whites from the oven, carefully place the egg yolks into the indentations and return to the oven and bake for a further 3-4 minutes.

Top Tips

Here is how you can make this recipe perfectly every time!

  • Separate your eggs carefully, if there is yolk mixed in with the whites, the whites won't beat properly.
  • Use your kitchen timer, the cooking times for these eggs are quite short so you can miss the perfect cook time if you get distracted.

FAQs

Why are my egg whites not beating to stiff peaks?

If the bowl you are using was not clean and dry this can affect the beating process, if you have some yolk in with the egg whites this will also stop the egg whites from beating.
