To make my banana puree you will need just one thing:
- banana
- (optional) breast milk, baby formula
- (optional) cinnamon
Ingredients Notes & Substitutions
- Choose ripe bananas: Ripe bananas will show no trace of green skin. They will feel plump and their skin may have freckles (brown spots). Ripe bananas also smell sweet when sniffed.
- Bananas with large black patches indicate the fruit is bruised
- Bananas that seem to have shrivelled are past the point of perfect ripeness.
- Breast milk or baby formula: If you wish you can add breast milk or baby formula to the puree.
- Cinnamon: As an optional extra a little pinch of cinnamon can be a nice addition.

Banana contains a combination of insoluble and soluble fibre which both play roles in the transit time of food through the bowel. Go slowly when adding fibre to your baby's diet, it is natural for bowel motions to become more solid and formed as solids are added to their diet.
If you look closely at banana flesh you will see small black spots, these are actually tiny banana seeds. This can look like coffee grounds in your baby's stools. Coffee grounds in bowel motions can be a sign of bleeding in the gut, but it can also just be a sign your child has been enjoying bananas.
