  • Everyday ingredients
  • Made in the microwave, it takes 2 minutes from start to finish!
  • No mixing bowls or fancy equipment other than a microwave needed
  • No eggs are needed, the recipe will also work with dairy-free alternatives and gluten-free flour.

Ingredients you will need

To make my Vanilla Microwave Mug Cake you will need:

  • Self-raising flour
  • Caster sugar
  • Milk
  • Vanilla extract
  • Butter
  • White chocolate
Ingredients for the Vanilla Mug Cake laid out on the bench - 1 bag of Self Raising Flour, Caster Sugar, Vanilla Essence, Butter, White Chocolate Chips and Milk

Ingredients Notes & Substitutions

  • Self-raising flour: This can be substituted for plain all purpose flour and ยผ teaspoon of baking powder. I have also tested this recipe with self-raising gluten-free flour and it worked just fine.
  • Caster sugar: I like to use finer sugar like caster sugar, but regular granulated sugar will be just fine.
  • Milk: This can be substituted for a plant-based milk
  • Butter: This can be substituted for margarine
  • Vanilla: I like to use a pure vanilla extract rather than an artificial vanilla essence as the vanilla flavor is just so much nicer.

Very tasty! I put all the batter into one ramekin (internal size 9.5cm diameter x 4cm deep) and it got over the edges a liiiitle bit (about 5mm) but not enough to make a mess, and was pretty well cooked ?

Please add what power microwave you have on this page - I eventually managed to find it on your Microwave Boiled Eggs page.
