Homemade Yogurt Melts (Baby Friendly)

These baby yogurt melts are a fun little finger food snack, an awesome way for babies to enjoy real yoghurt.

Why This Recipe Works

  • Melt in the mouth makes them perfect for babies early on in their solids journey.
  • Simple ingredients: Yoghurt + fruit + veggies
  • Stores in the freezer, perfect little snack for little ones

Ingredients you will need

The base of these yogurt melts is greek yogurt. I then use fruit and veggies to create three different flavours. 1. blueberries and banana, 2. spinach and apple sauce, 3. raspberries and pear.

Substitutes

  • Greek Yogurt: You do need a thick yoghurt for this recipe to work, a thick coconut yoghurt or soy yoghurt will work as well.
  • Fruit & Veggies: You can use any flavour combinations, alternatively you can also stir commercial baby purées through greek yoghurt.

How to Make Yogurt Melts

Below are illustrated step-by-step instructions to make my baby yogurt melts, if you prefer just the written instructions then head straight to the printable recipe card below.

Step one: Place the first measure of greek yoghurt and your chosen fruit and or veggie flavourings into a blender and blitz until you have a smooth purée.

Step two: Gently stir the purée through the second measure of greek yoghurt

Step three: Spoon the flavoured yoghurt into a piping bag, or any small bag with the corner cut off.

Step four: Pipe small blobs (buttons) of the flavoured yoghurt on to a baking tray (or flat plate) that will fit in your freezer that is lined with baking paper, parchment paper or a non-stick reusable liner.

Step five: Freeze until solid, this will take about an hour. Remove from the freezer and transfer the melts into an airtight container. Store in the freezer until your little one needs a cool yoghurt treat.

Once made, you can freeze a mixture of baby yogurt melt flavours together.

Top Tips

Here is how you can make these baby yogurt melts recipe perfectly every time!

  • To be able to successfully pipe the yoghurt melts you need the mix to be thick, use a thick yoghurt to start
  • Don't purée all the yogurt with the fillings, when you do this, greek yogurt will loose it's thick texture and will therefore become to runny to pipe.
  • I find it is easiest to pipe the yogurt bites from a very small opening. Only cut a very small corner off the bag you are using, or use a fine piping tip.

Store-bought yoghurt melts are typically made by dehydrating or freeze dried flavoured yogurt, these melts are frozen which means they are more filling and contain no additives.

Are yogurt melts healthy?

Frozen yoghurt melts are simply plain yoghurt combined with fruit making them a healthy choice

Do yogurt melts dissolve?

These are frozen yoghurt melts, they melt on heating, meaning they quickly liquify in the mouth.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup greek yogurt
  • ¼ pear 30g I use tinned pear, but this recipe will work with a very fresh soft pear (skin removed).
  • ¼ cup raspberries 25g
  • ¾ cup greek yogurt
