Drum roll, please... I am about to introduce you to the most incredible way to make eggs, Rice paper omelette is the recipe you never knew you needed, but now that you know you won't be able to live without it!

Ingredients you will need

To make my rice paper omelettes you will need:

  • Eggs
  • Water
  • Rice Paper
  • Oil/butter
  • Salt and pepper

And then your favourite omelette fillings:

  • Vegetables: Spinach, capsicum, mushrooms, tomatoes
  • Meats: ham, bacon, chicken, salmon
  • Avocado
  • Cheese

Ingredients Notes & Substitutions

  • Rice paper: Rice Paper is readily available in supermarkets and Asian specialty stores. Itโ€™s cheap to buy and has a long shelf life making it a great pantry staple.
  • Oil: You can use your favourite oil or butter, just a little is needed to grease the pan.
  • Water: When I make an omelette I like to add a splash of water to the whisked eggs I find this gives a lighter fluffier omelette
  • Fillings: Let your imagination run wild. I'll share 4 of my family's favourite filling combinations.

How to make a rice paper omelette

Below are illustrated step-by-step instructions to make my rice paper omelette recipe, if you prefer just the written instructions then head straight to the printable recipe card below.

Prep: Choose a pan that allows your rice paper sheets to lie flat in the base. Heat your pan over a medium heat

Step one: In a mixing bowl or jug, whisk the eggs, water, salt and pepper.

Step two: Brush your heated pan with oil

Pan on electric element with oil being brushed onto it, surrounded by variety of ingredients.

Step three: Place your rice paper in the bottom of the pan.

Step four: Pour the whisked eggs on top of the rice paper. Ideally, you want the rice paper to be evenly covered, but don't worry if it's not perfect. You can do this by tilting the pan to spread the egg mixture, or by using the back of a spoon.

Step five: Add your chosen omelette toppings

Spinach, salmon and avocado on one half of omelette.

Step six: Cook until the egg is set. Use a spatula to fold the omelette in half, the rice paper should be crispy and the eggs cooked but soft.

Rice paper typically contains white rice flour, tapioca flour, salt, and water.

Do I need to soak the rice paper when making a rice paper omelette?

No, you do not need to presoak the rice paper when making an omelette, the heat from the pan and the liquid from the egg penetrate the rice paper and cook it.

Equipment

  • 1 pan choose one with a diameter that is similar ro your rice paper sheets so that they can lie flat in the base.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet rice paper
  • for for greasing the pan
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 Tablespoon water
  • salt and pepper

Salmon & Avocado

  • 40 grams smoked salmon
  • 40 grams avocado one eighth rsliced
  • baby spinach leaves
  • 1 Tablespoon hollandaise sauce Optional- This omelette is lovely with a little drizzle of hollandaise

Aisan Inspired

  • 40 grams shredded chicken
  • mung bean sprouts
  • 1 spring onion finely sliced
  • chilli oil
  • 1 drizzle hoisin sauce Optional- This omelette is lovely with a little drizzle of hoisin

Cheese & Chives

  • 2 Tablespoons grated cheese
  • 1 teaspoon chives finely chopped

Mushroom & Bacon

  • 1 rasher streaky bacon cooked
  • ยผ cup mushroom sliced and sauteed
  • ยฝ tomato deseeded and chopped
  • 2 Tablespoons grated cheese

Instructions

  • Heat your pan over a medium heat

    Super yummy! Will definitely make again! Any tips to stop the rice paper from rolling when it goes in the pan? I had a bit of trouble getting the egg to spread since it kept rolling. Still delicious!

    1. If it is rolling up very quickly it may be that your pan is too hot. Try reducing the temperature a litle
