Ingredients you will need

You only need three ingredients to make this Christmas toast recipe

  • thick sliced bread
  • butter
  • egg
  • butter

Ingredient Notes and Substitutes

  • Butter: This can be substitued for margarine, vegan butter or coconut oil.
  • Bread: Any thick sliced bread will work
  • Star cookie cutter: You could use any shaped cutter you like!

How to make egg in a hole for Christmas

Below are illustrated step-by-step instructions to make my Christmas Eggs and Toast Recipe, if you prefer just the written instructions then head straight to the printable recipe card below.

Prep: Heat a pan at a medium/low temperature.

Step one: Use a cookie cutter to cut a star-shaped hole in the centre of the slice of bread.

Step two: Spread both sides of the bread and the star shape with butter

Step three: Place the buttered bread into the pan and cook until golden brown. Flip over.

Step four: Add a little extra butter to the bottom of the hole to create a non-stick surface. Carefully crack an egg into the centre of the hole.

Step five: Cook until the white of the egg is fully cooked and the yolk is cooked to your liking

  • The trick to the perfect egg is a low/medium heat, don't be tempted to speed up the process by cranking up the heat
  • You do not need to use a star shaped cutter, a christmas tree or gingerbread man would also make a very cute Christmas toast and eggs breakfast.
