Kiwi Puree made with kiwifruit is a very simple fruit puree that is high in vitamin C, potassium folate and fiber that you can make for your baby.

Interesting fact: I live In the Bay of Plenty of New Zealand, which is a kiwifruit growing area! So my family eat ALOT of kiwi.

Ingredients you will need

To make kiwifruit puree you will just need ripe kiwifruit.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutes

  • Kiwi/Kiwifruit: Depending on where you live you may call this fruit kiwi or kiwifruit. For me, in New Zealand it is definitely known as kiwifruit.
  • Gold/Green: Either gold or green kiwi can be used to make this kiwi puree recipe. They have very different flavor profiles. Green is quite tangy, a little like the tang you get from citrus fruit. Gold is sweeter and tastes more like a tropical fruit.
  • Liquid: Generally depending on your blender you will not need additional liquid to make kiwi puree. You can add a little water, breast milk or formula if needed.

How to choose the perfect kiwi

  • A ripe kiwi will yield to pressure when very gently squeezed.
  • Kiwi will open quite quickly, so it is often best to choose firm unblemished kiwi at the store and then leave them on your bench to ripen.

Top Tips

Here is how you can make this Kiwi Puree perfectly every time!

  • Start with ripe kiwi. You can tell if a kiwi fruit is ripe by holding the kiwi in the palm of your hand and then gently press the fruit. A ripe kiwi will give a little when you press, an unripe kiwi will be hard and firm.
  • If your blender is struggling to puree the fruit, my first tip is to add a bit more kiwifruit to the blender! Sometimes our blenders and food processors perform better if bigger quantities are used.
  • You can always add liquid if you feel like your blender is still struggling.
  • When making baby purees such as kiwifruit puree you can always add a little breastmilk or baby formula.
  • Portion any extras into a baby food or ice cube tray to freeze.

FAQs

Does Kiwi help with constipation in babies

Kiwifruit is known to relieve constipation in the elderly, studies have not been conducted in children but kiwi is often recommended by healthcare professionals as a natural laxative for children.

How to store kiwi puree?

Store in an airtight container or jar in the fridge for up to 4 days, or store in your freezer for up to 4 months.
