I serve guacamole with rice crackers, kid friendly tacos, vegetarian nachos and tortilla casserole. We make guacamole ALL the time just to serve with kids snacks, it is such a great source of healthy fat and fibre.

  • Garlic: This can be substituted for ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Lemon juice: This can be substituted for lime juice, white wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar. If you are using vinegar reduce the amount from 1 Tablespoon to 1-2 teaspoons.

Tips & Tricks

Here is how you can make this 4 Ingredient Guacamole perfectly every time!

  • Choose ripe avocados. One of the best ways to test for ripeness is to gently press the fruit around the stalk, if the fruit has softness/give it is ripe. Haas avocados like the ones I have used in this post skin changes colour when it ripens from green to purple, but this is not the case for all varieties of avocado. Reed avocados for example remain green even when ripe so gently pressing the avocado around the stalk is the best way to check.
  • My biggest tip is how to easily and safely de-stone an avocado without whacking the pit with a sharp knife. Cut your avocado in half. Then simple press your thumbs into the back of the fruit and the stone will easily pop out. I show how to do this in the recipe video.
  • If you are making a large amount of guacamole to feed a crowd you can easily double, triple or quadruple this recipe. If you are making large amounts try using your cake mixer instead of a masher to mash the avocado, it works brilliantly.
  • If you have Mexican Seasoning, try adding a spoonful to your avocado it adds extra flavour!
  • With its glorious green colour Guacamole is the perfect addition to a Halloween Snack Board, especially if you team it up with blue corn tortilla chips!
  • Spread this guacamole on oatmeal bread to make the best avocado toast!

FAQs

How to sop guacamole from browning?

To stop guacamole from browning in your fridge you need to stop air getting to it. You can do this by storing pouring a small amount of water, lemon juice or olive oil on to the surface of the guacamole. This will act as a barrier. You can then pour this layer off before serving.
