The classic Kiwi Dip absolutely screams summer holidays for New Zealanders. Traditionally this onion dip is made with reduced cream and onion soup. I've reinvented it, this version is vegan and gluten-free making it suitable for people who avoid gluten, dairy, and eggs.

Why This Recipe Works

  • The classic kiwi onion dip dairy and gluten free
  • 5 ingredients
  • Simple 2 step recipe

Ingredients you will need

To make my vegan french onion dip you will need silken tofu, onion powder, salt, lemon juice and soy sauce/tamari.

The ingredients to make a vegan onion dip laid out on a bench top.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutes

  • Silken Tofu: Be sure to choose a silken tofu as this will blend into a smooth dip texture.
  • Soy sauce: To be gluten free this onion dip will need to be made with tamari or gluten free soy sauce. Coconut amines will work in this recipe.
  • Lemon juice: There are 2 ways to make kiwi onion dip, one with vinegar and one with lemon juice, I am a fan of lemon juice in my onion dip, but this could be swapped for vinegar if you prefer.
  • Onion powder: For the onion flavour you will need onion powder or onion flakes.
