This carrot smoothie is creamy, fruity and yummy. My kids give it their tick of approval.

Why This Recipe Is Great For Busy Parents

Ingredients you will need

  • carrots
  • frozen banana
  • orange
  • apple juice
  • greek yogurt

Ingredient Notes and Substitutes

  • Carrots: I use leftover cooked carrots. Cooked carrots means a smooth and silky texture. If you have a good quality high power blenders you will be able to blend raw carrots, however if you steam carrots before adding them to a smoothie you will get a silkier texture.
  • Frozen banana: Frozen banana adds an ice cream like texture and flavor to smoothies.
  • Orange: This can be substituted for mandarins, clementines, tangelos or mango.
  • Apple juice: Many carrot smoothies are made with orange juice. I tried the orange juice version with my kids but to did not get a positive review from them. They preferred it made with apple juice or , but if you are a fan of orange juice you can definitely use it instead.
  • Greek yogurt: I like to add greek yogurt to a smoothie as it is a source of protein and calcium.

Step one: Place all ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. The most efficient way to get a smooth consistency is to start on low speed until all the ingredients are well combined and large chunks are gone before increasing the speed to high.

Here is how you can make this Carrot Smoothie perfectly every time!

  • Keep a stash of frozen banana in the freezer (perfect for bananas that have got a little overripe in the fruit bowl! Frozen bananas are so good in smoothies, they turn smoothies into thick shakes!
  • This carrot smoothie is the perfect place to serve leftover carrots that may not have been eaten at dinner time, like my honey carrots recipe.

Can raw carrots be blended into a smoothie?

High power blenders are able to blend raw carrots, however if you steam carrots before adding them to a smoothie you will get a silkier texture.

How To Make This Recipe Suitable For Baby-Led-Weaning

  • If you are making this recipe for a baby under one, consider using water instead of apple juice as the liquid as this will reduce the sugar content of the smoothie. 
  • If your child is under one year of age smoothies should not be used to substitute a 'milk feed' until this time all 'milk feeds' should either be breast milk or an appropriate infant formula. Smoothies can be offered as part of a meal or snack.

    I make this smoothie when I have leftover carrots from dinner. My kids might not have eaten the carrots but then they drink them... so no waste!
