I like to blend my bananas into a smooth puree, this gives the banana yogurt a silky texture. You can of course mash them if you prefer.
Fold the banana puree and vanilla through the yogurt.
Serve plain or with soft fruits or berries.
Notes
Use very ripe bananas — the brown-speckled ones are perfect for sweetness and smooth blending.
If your baby is sensitive to tangy flavours, start with a milder yogurt or mix half Greek yogurt and half natural yogurt.
This yogurt will keep in the fridge for up to 2 days, but it may darken slightly — that’s just the banana oxidising and it’s still safe to eat.
This banana yogurt is also delicious with a little nut butter blended into the banana or swirled into the yogurt before serving.
For older kids, sprinkle a few soft oats, crushed cereal or granola on top for extra texture.
Bananas: The riper, the better — extra soft and sweet makes this ideal for babies just starting solids. If you’d like more banana ideas, check out my banana baby food post for texture tips and serving suggestions.
Greek yogurt: Choose full-fat, plain Greek yogurt for creaminess and energy. You can also use a baby-specific yogurt (see my baby yogurt guide) or a dairy-free alternative like coconut yogurt.
Vanilla extract: Optional, but adds lovely flavour.
