Ingredients

  • 2 cup blueberries
  • 4 Tablespoons water

Instructions

  • Place the blueberries and water in a saucepan
  • Bring to a boil, simmer for 5 minutes
  • Blend, into a smooth puree. (If you are using a non-vented blender ie a bullet style blender, be sure to allow the blueberries to cool before blending as the pressure in a non-vented blender can build up when blending hot liquids).

Notes

Yield: one and a half cups of puree.
Store your blueberry puree in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days, freeze any leftovers.
It's very easy to puree fresh blueberries, put them in a blender, blend, adding liquid a little at a time if required to make a smooth puree.
Whether you need to cook frozen blueberries before eating them depends on their country of origin and food safety standards in that country. Frozen blueberries have been linked with cases of Hepatitis A in some countries. Boiling frozen blueberries for 1-2 minutes will eliminate this risk.
