If you asked me last year what my traffic to my food blog was, and I told you, you probably would have laughed! I was terrible at Pinterest, I had no idea what I was doing. This year I tackled it as a project. This year I increased my traffic 10 fold in just 60 days. I’ll take you through what I did and what made the biggest differences.
My Pinterest Traffic Statistics
These stats are direct from google analytics. As you can see 2016 was not great for me, and trust me the rest of 2016 was pretty much the same. December was actually my biggest month that year! In February I started working on Pinterest as a focus, and well you can see in the graph what happened!
Pinterest is not about having followers it is about having great pins
I learnt this fact from Orlena Kerek of the snotty noses blog. Orlena is a smart lady, a Paediatrician in fact who has turned her hand to blogging. She taught me that if you have good pins, then you will get good traffic from Pinterest regardless of the size of your followers. I am now a fully fledged believer in this.
As you can see my Pinterest traffic has increased dramatically, but my followers have not increased at any where near the same pace. Which means the increase in traffic must be down to my pins and where I pin them rather than my follower count. Don’t get me wrong my followers are increasing but it is not my followers driving the traffic
Orlena taught me how to make great Pinterest pins through her course Easy Pinterest Traffic. She taught me how to craft great pins, not just aesthetically but also how to complete key word research so that my great looking pins would also appear when people searched in Pinterest.
I’ll show you one of my old pins, vs one of my new pins.
The old version of this pin was actually one of my better pins, well so I thought. It had been pinned 299 times. I was pretty happy with that as usually I got around 3 re-pins lol! Since taking Orlena’s course and receiving one-on-one feedback on my pins from her, I made changes and pinned the new pin. Same recipe just a new pin. Guess what, it went viral. It has since been pinned 133k times! I now have a number of viral pins, pins that bring traffic to my site each and every day!
