If you asked me last year what my traffic to my food blog was, and I told you, you probably would have laughed! I was terrible at Pinterest, I had no idea what I was doing. This year I tackled it as a project. This year I increased my traffic 10 fold in just 60 days. I'll take you through what I did and what made the biggest differences.
Please be aware there are affiliate links in this post. You will pay no more but it will help me fund my blog and maybe purchase some new photography equipment. I 100% stand by the products an opinions in this post though.
My Pinterest Traffic Statistics
These stats are direct from google analytics. As you can see 2016 was not great for me, and trust me the rest of 2016 was pretty much the same. December was actually my biggest month that year! In February I started working on Pinterest as a focus, and well you can see in the graph what happened!
Pinterest is not about having followers it is about having great pins
I learnt this fact from Orlena Kerek of the snotty noses blog. Orlena is a smart lady, a Paediatrician in fact who has turned her hand to blogging. She taught me that if you have good pins, then you will get good traffic from Pinterest regardless of the size of your followers. I am now a fully fledged believer in this.
As you can see my Pinterest traffic has increased dramatically, but my followers have not increased at any where near the same pace. Which means the increase in traffic must be down to my pins and where I pin them, rather than my follower count. Don't get me wrong my followers are increasing but it is not my followers driving the traffic
Orlena taught me how to make great Pinterest pins through her course Easy Pinterest Traffic. She taught me how to craft great pins, not just aesthetically but also how to complete key word research so that my great looking pins would show up when people searched in Pinterest.
I'll show you one of my old pins, vs one of my new pins.
The old version of this pin was actually one of my better pins, well so I thought. It had been pinned 299 times. I was pretty happy with that as usually I got around 3 re-pins lol! Since taking Orlena's course and receiving one-on-one feedback on my pins from her, I made changes and pinned the new pin. Same recipe just a new pin. Guess what, it went viral. It has since been pinned 133k times! I now have a number of viral pins, pins that bring traffic to my site each and every day!
The Easy Pinterest Traffic course
The easy Pinterest traffic course taught me and will teach you
- How to identify and reach your Target Reader
- How to optimise your Pinterest profile
- How to optimise your website for Pinterest
- Pinterest analytics
- Pinning Strategy
- The Anatomy of a Viral Pin
- Creating a Pin Template
If you have read my earlier post on growing a food blog with Facebook you will know I am a huge believer in taking a course to speed learning and see results in blogging. The Easy Pinterest Traffic Course was not the first course I took on Pinterest. The first one I took sucked, totally sucked it was over priced and all theoretical absolutely no practical help. It sucked so much I asked for a refund. The Easy Pinterest Course however was completely perfect for me, easy to follow, practical things to implement and I saw results straight away! 60 days after taking it, my Pinterest traffic was 10 times higher than it had ever been before!
The Easy Pinterest Traffic Course is open now and I highly recommend it!
- Cost $149
- Open until the 28th September 2017
- Sign up in the next 48 hrs using my link and receive a bonus!

Yes in this case the early bird catches the worm!
I had a chat with Orlena and she is throwing in a bonus for people who sign up using my link in the next 48 hrs!
You will receive individual feedback on your current Pinterest profile and pins.
Be warned, Orlena's feedback can be brutal, but seriously it is the harsh feedback that made all the difference to me!!
What else did I do to improve my Pinterest Traffic
The biggest thing I did for my Pinterest traffic was to take the Easy Pinterset Traffic Course as it taught me how to make a good pin and taught me how to pin strategically. There have been a couple of other things that I have done along the way that I think have helped too.
1. I changed the social share plug in I use on my website
I started using social warfare. Social warfare has a couple of handy features that I think really help with Pinterest.
2. I started using Tailwind properly
I am in LOVE with tailwind, tailwind is a great scheduler for Pinterest. But not only does it schedule it also helps you find great content through tribes. In my next post I will cover off my favourite Tailwind tribes (ie the ones that bring me traffic) But in the meantime I would definitely say people should try out tailwind! So so so good!
At the moment I have a little deal with Tailwind, where you will receive $15 credit so that you can try it out. (That is a month free!) If you go on to take out a tailwind subscription then I get a month free too.
So there you have it, how I increased my blog traffic 10 fold from Pinterest in 60 days! It started with the Easy Pinterest Traffic Course and then I made a few tweaks to my site and process to optimise what I was doing.
