This pea pasta is simple make and absolutely loaded with the goodness of peas. It starts with a quick pea pesto which is stirred through your favourite pasta.

Ingredients you will need

To make my Pea Pasta will need:

Pea Pesto

  • Frozen peas
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Olive oil
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Lemon juice
  • Garlic

Plus

  • Pasta
  • Peas (a few more for good measure)

Ingredients Notes & Substitutions

  • Frozen peas: You could absolutely use fresh peas if you have access to them
  • Parmesan cheese: Any very hard flavourful cheese will work.
  • Olive oil: Avocado oil with its lovely green colour is nice too!
  • Sunflower seeds: The pesto will work with pinenuts, pepitas (pumpkin seeds) or cashews or almonds.

Step-by-step instructions

Below are illustrated step-by-step instructions to make Pea Pasta recipe, if you prefer just the written instructions then head straight to the printable recipe card below.

Step one: Cook the first measure of peas as per the packet instruction.

Step two: Place all the ingredients in a food processor and blitz until smooth

Step three: If you want a more liquid consistency add a little more oil. Taste and season with salt an pepper.

Step four: Put the pasta onto cook as per the packet instructions. 2 Minutes before the pasta is cooked add the second measure of peas to the pasta pot. 

Step five: Once your pasta is al dente and the peas are tender, drain reserving about ½ a cup of the pasta cooking water.

Step six: Transfer the drained pasta and peas to a bowl, add the pea pesto sauce and approximately ¼ cup of the pasta water, and toss the pasta so that it is well coated with the pesto sauce. If the pasta is a little dry, add more of the reserved pasta water until the pesto pasta has the consistency you want.

Top Tips

Here is how you can make Pasta with Pea Pesto perfectly every time!

  • Remember to set a timer for two minutes less than the pasta cooking time so you can add the frozen peas!
  • The pea pesto can be served as a dip or a spread. It's nice on toast with a poached egg.

Ingredients

Pea Pesto Sauce

  • 1.5 cups frozen peas
  • 35 g parmesan cheese
  • â…“ cup olive oil
  • ¼ cup sunflower seeds
  • 2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove

Pea Pasta

  • 300 grams pasta
  • 1 cup peas

Instructions

  • Cook the first measure of peas as per the packet instruction.
  • Place all the ingredients in a food processor
  • Blitz until smooth
  • If you want a more liquid consistency add a little more oil. Taste and season with salt and pepper.
