Apple Oat No Bake Bites

It's happened, my 3.5 yr old has become quite a fussy little eater. So when it comes to filling lunchboxes its all about balls balls balls.

These apple oat no-bake bites are a relatively new addition to my ball rotation, but based on the fact my little miss gobbled 5 during the photoshoot alone I think we can safely say they will be a regular.

Thus far I have not attempted these apple oat no-bake bites as nut-free, that will be my next project. I suspect they will work with sunflower seeds. But I have tried them with both peanut butter and almond butter. I make them with peanut butter more often as it is so much cheaper than almond butter. But the almond version was scrummy.

To make this recipe nut-free tahini can be used, I find the hulled tahini works best in this recipe as it's flavour is not as strong.

Apple Oat No-Bake Bites

No bake apple oat energy bites, an easy healthy and tasty snack for kids!

Ingredients

  • Cooked apple or apple puree 200g
  • Peanut butter 150g ½ C
  • Raisins 60g ½C
  • Rolled oats 200g 2 C

Instructions

  • Watch the quick recipe video before you get started, scroll up a little to find it
  • Check the notes at the bottom of the recipe for little bits of extra info and help
  • In a food processor blitz the apple, peanut butter, and raisins. 
  • Add the rolled oats and using the pulse function on the food processor, pulse until combined
  • Take tablespoon fulls and roll into balls. If you find the mixture a bit sticky, dampen your hands
  • Refrigerate for 30 mins
  • Serve
  • These balls can keep in the refrigerator for up to 4 days
  • These balls can be frozen

Peanut butter can be replaced with almond butter to make these peanut-free, tahini will work as asubstitutee for not free
This recipe is wheat free but not gluten free if traditional oats are used.

  3. Can you tell me if the amount in parentheses is US cups? It seems off that 150g is half a cup and 300 is 3 cups. Thanks!

    1. yes it is cups. In nz our cups are 250ml which I think is the same as the USA. Peanut butter is far denser than rolled oats which is why it weighs so much more compared to the oats.

  6. I love them and so do my grandchildren, only problem is they only last a short time ?, but its great fun making them.

  7. Could you please tell me how much 250ml of apple is in US cups, and by apple puree, do you mean apple sauce? If cooked apple, could you explain how you cook apple(s), how many and if peeled or unpeeled? I'd really like to make these but unsure about the apple ingredient. Thanks!

    1. For us in New Zealand, a Cup is 250ml, is it the same in the USA? I use one cup. To make my apple puree I peek apples, pop them in a pot with a little water and cook until tender, Then drain remaining water and blitz.

  9. I'm wondering if you could use applesauce instead of apple puree, or would that be too watery?

    1. It will depend on the apple sauce, I have used canned apple sauce that worked as it was a thick one, ie little added water and it had no added sugar.

  11. I made these but realized at the end I only had half the required oats and only had instant oats- what can I do now with these squidgy balls?

    1. Yes absolutely. depending on the power of your food processor you may need to soak them first.

  14. Hi there! I plan on making these as a cooking center for 2st graders. Can I skip the food processor and let the kids mix with wooden spoons and hands? Thanks!
